Nerf bars
Ordered a set of the black, powder coated, carbon steel. Got them if Ebay, from Grille 4 You, based out of Ontario.
They had a 5 year warranty, which was more than the other expensive brands. Once they're on, there will be pics of course. Only thing that makes me mad, if I had checked before hand, I could have ordered through their site and saved $18. Oh well ... lol |
Right on. Can I throw some advice your way. Before you spend too much money on mods for your truck, read, read, read. This and other forums. Anything you can get your eyes across. After you've read till your head hurts, start thinking about what you want to do with your FJ. Once you have an idea about that, start working towards that. Otherwise, you might find yourself in the situation where you order a part today, that 4 months from now you realize you don't want.
Personal example. When I bought my FJ, I ordered a grille guard. I wanted an aftermarket bumper, but didn't have the money at the time. Before I could get the guard out of the box I decided to just save up for a bumper. Which I've done. I still have a multiple hundred dollar purchase sitting in a box in my closet. Now specifically how this all applies to your recent purchase. Just be aware, nerf bars bolt to the body, not to the frame. If you drive across anything that ends up pushing up on those bars, i.e. a rock or stump, not only will it mangle those bars, but it will also do body damage. If you were to order a set of rock rails that bolt to the frame, you will be (if you order the right kind) adding a step, like a nerf bar, but you'll also be adding some body armor to protect a portion of your undercarriage from harm. The cheapest ones out there (which is what I have as well) are Trail Gear Sliders. Here, scroll down. http://www.trail-gear.com/fj-cruiser |

I don't plan to do extensive offroading ... maybe some lighter trails, etc ... but regardless, I will definitely keep your input at the forefront as I continue to make upgrades ... most of the additional stuff I'll be doing : tires, rims, stereo, and some very basic appearance mods. Again, thanks for the input!! Greatly appreciate you looking out for a newbie like me! Off topic : military veteran? |
Negetive. Not even old enough to be a military vet. It's just a name I use that I stole from one of the greatest punk rock guitarists.

Nerf bars have been put on. I've never done anything to a vehicle before ... I hope they don't fall off.

nice. did you bolt them in all the holes? did you turn the bolts till they were tight? you're probably golden then.

For each mount, 3 for each bar, 2 bolts into body mount and 2 into actual bar. Used all pieces, washers etc, and tightened them till my hands hurt, and was exhausted. LOL I had to buy a ratchet set ... LOL Took me about 90 minutes to put first one on, and about 15 minutes for the second one. Next self upgrade, will prob be replacing the plastic, stock grills ... but don't know when that may happen. That will be followed by badge project. Other sizeable changes will have to wait. Got other higher priority items to take care of.. I've got a ton of time, and not enough money. Hahahaha |
right on. well it sounds like you've got things under control then.

Recently puchased these nerf bars. I wanted aluminum step tubes so I won't have to worry about rust and they have the step pad machined into the aluminum instead of a plastic step pad. They can also be customized to accent or match the truck, which is a bonus.
